Youth 'ends life killing' father in Pirojpur

A young man allegedly has committed suicide after killing his father over a family feud in Mathbaria Upazila in Pirojpur district. The deceased were identified as Jalil Master, 60, a retired primary school teacher, and his son Zahurul Islam, 21, resident of Napitkhali village in Mathbaria Upazila. Khandaker Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Mathbaria Police Station, said Jalil and Zahurul engaged in an altercation around 4:30pm after the former asked the latter to cultivate paddy saplings on their land. At one stage of altercation, Zahurul stabbed his father indiscriminately with a sharp weapon, leaving him dead on the spot. Zahurul’s mother Firoza Begum, 40, also suffered injuries in the attack as she tried to save her husband. The injured was taken to Mathbaria Upazila Health Complex where doctor referred her to Barisal Shere-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital following deterioration of her condition. After killing his father, Zahurul Islam went to Nagrabhanga village, one kilometre off his house, where he hanged himself from a tree around 5pm. Being informed, police recovered his body and sent those to hospital for autopsy. Quoting locals, the OC said Jalil Master had six wives and three of them have died so far. The former schoolteacher had feud with his sons and daughters over the issue, he said, adding that this might have been behind the murder, according to a news agency.
