The rail communication of Khulna with the whole country, including Dhaka city, remained snapped since Wednesday morning following the derailment of a freight train in Daulatpur. Bangladesh Railway (BR) sources said two bogies of a Khulna-bound rice-laden train from Ishwardi of Pabna veered off the tracks around 6:20am, halting the train communication of Khulna with rest of the country. Kamrul Islam, examiner of BR’s West Zone, said a salvage train from Khulna reached the spot and started the salvage operation around 10:15am. Five trains, including a Dhaka-bound one, got stuck in Khulna Railway Station following the incident, according to a news agency.
