Govt to preserve historic places of religious worship: Noor

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor on Saturday said the government would renovate and preserve the historic places of religious worship for highlighting the county's past heritage before the new generation.

"We will take initiative to renovate and preserve past heritage of Armenian Church and adjacent graveyard at Armanitola in the old part of the city where once Armenian community used to reside," he told reporters after visiting the Armenian Church at Armenian street in the capital.

The cultural affairs minister said initiative has already been taken to renovate the church. "Cultural ministry will provide assistance for renovation of the church though it is under the archeology department," Noor observed.

Chief of the church Armen Arslanian Warden and caretaker of the church, Shankar Bosh, accompanied the minister during the visit, a news agency report said.

The Armenian Church was established in 1781, but this area had been used as graveyard of Armenian people from long time ago, Bosh told the news agency.

The church is about 750 feet long having a total of four doors and 27 windows.
