Bangladeshi beaten dead by BSF in Naogaon

A Bangladesh national was beaten to death allegedly by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on Kalmudanga border in Naogaon Sapahar upazila on Wednesday. The dead is Shafiqul Islam, 38, son of Islam Ali, a resident of Kalmudanga village in the upazila. Locals and family members said BSF troops from Adadanga camp in India’s West Bengal state attacked a group of Bangladeshi young man who gathered at Kalmudanga, a border village, in the morning. At one stage, BSF men caught Shafiqul while his other associates managed to flee the scene. The BSF men beat Shafiqul mercilessly and left him at the border point around 6:00am. Locals found him and whisked him off to Sapahar Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctor declared him dead. Major Iqbal Akter, deputy commanding officer of Patnitala Border Guard Bangladesh Battalion-14, said the BGB were looking into the matter, according to a news agency.
