One dies in Ctg train-lorry collision

One person was killed and two others were injured as an inter-city train rammed a covered van (lorry) that got on a level crossing defying signal in Sitakunda Upazila in Chittagong district on Tuesday. Identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Mafijur Rahman said the Chittagong-bound train from Mymensingh hit the lorry in Barobkunda around 5:10am, leaving the lorry helper dead on the spot and two others, including its driver, injured. Following the accident, five compartments of the train derailed snapping the rail link with Dhaka and Sylhet, said officer-in-charge of Government Railway Police Himangsu Das. A three-member probe committee headed by Railway Eastern Divisional Engineer-1 Abidur Rahman was formed to investigate the incident, said the DRM Mafijur. A relief train from Chittagong city is preparing to go to the spot to salvage the derailed bogies, according to a news agency.
