Traffic policeman saves drowning boy

While the crowd were playing the role of mere spectators even after seeing a schoolboy drowning in a drain in Chittagong, a traffic constable jumped into the water body without thinking anything to save him. He earned acclamation when he managed to rescue the eight-year-old boy, who was about to die in front of the crowd, braving his life near the truck terminal under Bandar Police Station in the port city. Traffic sergeant Anwarul Haque Masud of Chittagong Metropolitan Police said Sazzad Hossain, a Class-II student of Halishahar Makbulia Government Primary School and son of Shahadat Hossain of Saber Lane in Khalpar area, slipped into the drain while going to his school on Sunday. But, no one of the crowd who gathered around the water body dared to jump into water to save the boy. Monir Hossain, a constable of Chittagong Metropolitan Police Traffic Department, peeped through the crowd out of curiosity on his way to the duty station and saw the little boy drowning in the water body with only his hands visible above the water. Immediately, the policeman jumped into the drain without thinking anything and rescued the boy around 9:30am. Later, the boy was handed over to his parents. Meanwhile, CMP Commissioner Abdul Jalil Mondal said they will award the traffic constable for his bravery, according to a news agency.
