Man held with 22 gold bars at Shahjalal

Customs officials arrested a man along with 22 gold bars weighing 2.56 kg at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Sunday night. The arrestee was identified as M Iqbal, 35, a resident of Satkania upazila of Chittagong district. Joint Commissioner (Customs) SM Shohel Rahman said Iqbal came to Dhaka from Chittagong through a Regent Bankok flight. Being tipped off, a team of customs officials challenged Iqbal while he was passing the domestic terminal of the airport and recovered 22 gold bars concealed inside his shoes around 11:25pm, said the Joint Commissioner. The gold bars are worth Tk12.5 million according to the current market value, he added, according to a news agency.
