Wife to die for killing husband in Rangpur

A Rangpur court on Monday sentenced a wife to death for brutally murdering her husband in unconscious state some five years ago in the city.

Rangpur Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1 Learned Judge Md Rokanuzzaman announced the verdict this afternoon in absence of the convict, a BSS report said.

The learned court also acquitted another accused person, named Humayun Kabir, from the case as the charges brought against him were not proved.

The prosecution says convicted Sufia Begum, 45, wife of Ahsanul Haque Belal, 50, of GB Sen Road in Mahiganj area in the city chopped her husband to death on the night of April 4, 2010 after mixing sedatives in his drink.

Later, locals caught Sufia Begum red-handed while she was attempting to bury body of her husband in a nearby jungle the next morning and handed her over to police.

After examining the witnesses and evidences of the case, the learned court found Sufia Begum guilty beyond any doubt, delivered the verdict sentencing her to death and acquitted Humayun Kabir.
