Expatriates remit $315.70m Oct 1-9

Bangladesh received $315.70 million in remittance in the first 9 days of October this year. Bangladesh Bank statistics show the four state-owned commercial banks – Agrani, Janata, Rupali and Sonali – received $99.74m from the expatriate Bangladeshis while four state-owned specialised banks got $4,32m. The maximum remittance came through the private commercial banks who brought $208.54m while the nine foreign banks only $3.11m.

Among the private commercial banks, Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL) led the remittance earning as it received the highest remittance of $74.95 million, followed by National Bank Limited (NBL) with $14.72m. Of the state-owned banks, Agrani Bank received $34.41 million, Sonali Bank $31.48 million, Janata Bank $28.08 million and Rupali Bank 5.77 million.

Among other private banks who are in the leading positions in earning remittance include Uttara Bank ($11,77 million), Pubali Bank ($12.41 million), Dutch-Bangla Bank ($10.62 million), Bank Asia ($8.30 million), Trust Bank ($5.15 million), Prime Bank ($10.43 million), BRAC Bank ($6.23 million) and AB Bank ($4.42 million).

Like previous days, the NRB banks showed a poor performance in earning the remittance from the expatriates although the government allowed establishing these banks with high hope. Of the three NRB banks, NRB Bank received no remittance while NRB Commercial Bank got $0.02 million and NRB Global Bank received $0.01 million in remittances from non-resident Bangladeshis during the period.

Some new banks including Modhumati, South Bangla Agriculture Bank also showed poor performance in earning remittance in first 9 days of the current month, according to a news agency.
