Govt to implement a project to sell rice at TK 10/KG

The government has decided to undertake a programme to sell rice at Tk 10 per kilogram keeping the affordability of the financially underprivileged people in mind.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the programme in Chilmari upazila of the district at 10 am on September 7.

After the inauguration, the Prime Minister will address a public meeting at Chilmari Pilot High School ground.

Under the programme, selected card holders will get 30 kilograms of rice every month through village ration dealers at a rate of Tk 10 per kg, reports BSS.

Five million poor families across the country will get rice for five months under the 'Food Friendly Programme for the Ultra Poor.'

Kurigram Deputy Commissioner (DC) Khan M. Nurul Amin said food ration card is being distributed to selected people in the district.

The families have been selected through the local public representatives. They will get 30 kg rice in September, October and November in 2016 and March and April in 2017. The months have been selected in view of non-availability of work for the day-labourers.

Kurigram district food office sources said the programme will cover 1,25,279 families in the district.
