All rounder Mahmudullah emerged as a most runs scorer in just concluded two-match Test series against South Africa. The right handed batsman scored 102 runs including a brilliant half century with an average of 44.54. His highest score was 67 runs. Teammates Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan placed in second and third positions scoring 93 and 82 runs respectively. The two-match Test series against the visiting South African national cricket team were drawn, according to a news agency.

China shows interest in upgradation of paper mills

China has expressed its deep interest to upgrade or newly construct three paper mills of the country- Karnaphuli Paper Mills, Khulna Paper Mills and North-Bengal Paper Mills, Pakshi- on government-to-government (G to G) basis. China Chemical Engineering Second Construction Corporation (CCESCC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the China National Chemical Engineering Company Ltd, a state-owned corporation, expressed their deep interest to implement this through a project in a letter sent to Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on July 12, 2015. In the letter, General Manager of CCESCC Zhang Weiguo said that the Corporation carries out design and construction for vast majority of the chemical engineering projects in China and also a lot of overseas projects. The CCESCC also attached a draft MoU with the letter for signing subject to the consideration of the Bangladesh Industries Minister, according to a news agency.

'Friendship Day' celebrated

The International Day of Friendship is being celebrated in Bangladesh on Sunday. The day is a very special for youths, juveniles and children. Khaleda's Gatco pleas verdict Aug 5

The High Court will give its decision on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s pleas challenging the legality of the Gatco graft case on August 5. The bench of Justice Md Nuruzzaman and Justice Abdur Rob finished hearing the rule on the two petitions — issued 7 years ago — on June 17 and kept its verdict pending. “The matter has been included in the court’s cause list and August 5 has been fixed for the verdict,” the BNP chief’s lawyer Ragib Rouf Chowdhury said. The Gatco case was filed on September 2, 2007, against 13 people including Khaleda and her youngest son, the late Arafat Rahman Coco. Charges were brought against 24 people in the case on May 13, 2008, leading to Khaleda and Coco’s arrest the next day. The charge-sheet in the case said the state faced a loss of Tk 145.63 million with Gatco being awarded the container handling work at the Dhaka Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Kamalapur and the Chittagong Port. Later, the High Court had frozen both cases following petitions by the BNP chief, according to bdnews24.com.

AL worried over fake FB accounts of Hasina's family

The Awami League (AL) has appealed to all those operating fake Facebook accounts in the name of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family members to close them down, reports bdnews24.com. The appeal has been posted on Bangladesh AL’s official Facebook page. It said that fake Facebook pages are being operated in the name of the Prime Minister, her younger sister Sheikh Rehana, her daughter Saima Hossain Putul and Rehana’s son Radwan Mujib. The AL Facebook post said that neither Hasina nor Rehana, Putul, Radwan have any Facebook page – so the accounts in their name are all fake and operated by ‘mischief makers’. Another Facebook page is operated in the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, though he was assassinated in 1975. That is obviously fake. Only Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, also Information Technology Advisor to the Prime Minister, maintains a Facebook page and his updates often make news.
